Reference Block Type 1 according to DIN EN ISO 3452-3
Description
The Control Block 1 according to DIN EN ISO 3452-3 is a standardized PT test block for penetrant testing (PT). It is used to determine the sensitivity of visible and fluorescent penetrant testing systems and enables a defined assessment of the penetrant testing materials used.
The control block consists of four brass plates with nickel-chromium coatings of different thicknesses. Defined transverse cracks are produced by stretching the plates. The thickness of the nickel-chromium coating determines the respective crack depth.
The four test plates have defined crack depths of:
- 10 µm
- 20 µm
- 30 µm
- 50 µm
The ratio of crack width to crack depth is approximately 1 : 20 in each case.
The control block is therefore suitable for assessing the indication sensitivity of penetrants in visible dye penetrant testing and fluorescent penetrant testing.
Application
The penetrant to be tested is applied to the respective test plate in accordance with the intended PT inspection procedure. After the specified penetration time, intermediate cleaning, drying and developer application are carried out. The resulting crack indications are then evaluated.
For fluorescent penetrant testing systems, the test plates with 10, 20, 30 and 50 µm are used. For visible dye penetrant testing systems, the test plates with 30 and 50 µm are used.
Note: Control Block 1 is used to determine the sensitivity of a penetrant testing system according to DIN EN ISO 3452-3. Control Block 2 is used for regular monitoring of the ongoing PT inspection process and intermediate cleaning.
